Swimming Pool Care When It’s Super Hot

Swimming Pool Care When It's Super Hot

Swimming pool care is key in hot weather.

You don’t need us to tell you it’s hot! With July and August as our hottest months of the summer, you’re probably looking for some respite from the heat. While you want to be outside, it’s much to hot just to sit there.

So, you head to the pool! You want to make sure it’s in great shape for swimming, so we’ve put together some important tips on swimming pool care when it’s hot.

A properly maintained pool is clear and clean, and here’s how to do it!

Stay on Top of Your Chlorine

Your chlorine tablets dissolve much faster in hot weather and hot water. We encourage you to add them more often.

The standard rule is one tablet per 10,000 gallons of water at all times.

If you have a 20,000 gallon pool, you need to add two tablets. If two days later, they are dissolved in half, you essentially only have one in your pool. You then want to add one more.

You need two tablets in your swimming pool at all times.

We encourage you to stay on top of this so you always have the right amount of chlorine in your pool.

Finally, don’t forget to test your water regularly. Bring us a sample, and we can do it for you, for FREE, using BioGuard’s Alex System!

Circulate Your Pool

You want to run your pump at least 8-12 hours per day. To ensure clear and clean water, you must run your pump.

If you have a salt system, you might run it even longer as your salt system only operates when the pump does.

Care for Your Filtration System

We’re talking about skimmer baskets, your pool filter, and your pump basket. Check them on an ongoing basis and make sure they are clean and not blocked.

Clean your pool filter regularly.

Brush Your Pool

Algae loves hot weather. This is why you want to brush your pool walls and the floor of your pool regularly. Keep bacteria and algae at bay!

Don’t forget to clean other areas of your pool such as the benches, corners, and pool steps.

Final Thoughts on Swimming Pool Care

We leave you with one final tip for your hot weather swimming pool care.

Maintain your pH levels. This is vital to taking care of your hot weather swimming pool. Try to keep your pH between 7.2 and 7.4.
