The Importance of Test Strips
It’s summer, and your pool is open. Whether it’s May or September, you want to make sure you maintain your swimming pool properly!
Water testing is a vital step in the care and maintenance of your swimming pool. In this article, we look at the importance of test strips!
Test Your Water at Home
You can and should be testing your water at home. With test strips, you can quickly and easily test for free chlorine, total bromine, pH, total hardness, and total alkalinity. With just one single dip, you get accurate results so you can properly care for your water.
We recommend testing your water at least once every week. It’s also a good idea to test your water at the same time every day.
What You Are Testing For
Now, let’s take a closer look at exactly what you’re testing for.
Free Chlorine
This shows you how much sanitizer residual you have in your pool water. Generally, you want to keep this at 2-4 parts per million (ppm).
Total Bromine
This also gives you information on the sanitizer residual in the water. For this, you want to maintain your levels at 2-4 ppm.
pH
You want to keep your pH levels between 7.2 and 7.8 ppm. If it’s too high, you’ll need to treat your water with a decreaser. If it’s too low, you’ll look to BioGuard Balance Pak.
Total Hardness
For this, you are looking at the amount of dissolved calcium and magnesium in your pool water. Again, too high or too low, you’ll end up with issues.
Total Alkalinity
When you measure this, you’re looking at your swimming pool’s ability to resist swings in your pH levels. We’ve got the right BioGuard products to treat this, too, if it’s too low or too high.
