How to Vacuum Your Pool
Vacuuming your swimming pool is a vital step in your pool’s maintenance.
While many pool owners choose an automatic pool cleaner, some of of our customers choose to vacuum their pools manually. If you’re going to vacuum either an inground or above ground swimming pool, check out these tips.
Here’s how to vacuum your pool.
- Purchase a pool vacuum – a vacuum head, a vacuum hose and a telescopic pole
- Attach the vacuum head to the telescopic pole and the vacuum hose to the head
- Holding the pole in your hand, lower the vacuum head and hose into the pool, while keeping the other end of the hose outside of the pool
- Do this using a hand over hand method to keep air out of the hose.
- Find your filter skimmer – this is where the water enters you pool and can be found on the wall of your pool
- Connect the free end of your vacuum hose to the opening at the back of the skimmer (do this after taking the skimmer basket off)
- Now water should be going through your hose. Once it’s full of water, you’ll no longer see bubbles. You’ve got suction, and you can see the vacuum head flat on the floor of your pool
- Switch the filter nozzle to intake mode – this means you are sucking water in
- Guide the vacuum head with the telescopic pole along the floor of your pool to suck in the dirt. Do this like you would a vacuum in your own home
- Don’t lift your vacuum head until you go back to the filter and open any of the valves you closed
- Disconnect your hose from the filter when you’re done
