What is Your Love Language

How do you show your love to the people in your life? What is your love language? For us, a lot of the time, it’s through food. Check out this article and learn more about your love language!

What is Love Language?

When someone asks you what your love language is, they are referring to how you express love to others as well as how you like to receive love from others. Surprisingly, the two aren’t always the same.

For example, you might express your love through gift giving, while you like to receive love through the human touch.

The most important thing for you and your loved ones is to know and understand how you express and receive love. This can help build strong relationships.

There are five original love languages, and they include:

  • Physical Touch
  • Quality Time
  • Words of Affirmation
  • Acts of Service
  • Receiving Gifts

Then, there are seven more love languages, including:

  • Activity
  • Appreciation
  • Emotion
  • Financial
  • Intellectual
  • Physical
  • Practical

So, where does food fit into these love languages?

What is Your Love Language

Food is a Universal Love Language

Food may be represented under many of the above categories, including quality time, acts of service, receiving gifts, activity, emotional appreciation, physical, and practical.

It’s widely recognized that food can be integral to many relationships.

Here is how people use food to express their love.

Food is the tie that binds.

For many people, “breaking bread” brings them together. How many times have you sat around a table for hours after a good meal? Food allows people to spend time together sharing food. This, in turn, creates an intimate, remembered connection.

Food is comforting.

While food is important for living a healthy life, it also is comforting. Just imagine the person who goes away to college and comes home at the holidays, looking forward to the comfort food of their childhood.

Nearly everyone remembers one dish their grandparent or parent made. Food has the immediate ability to bring you back to a special occasion or a time that you were filled with love.

Food is an extra special gift.

You spend the afternoon baking cookies for friends and family. You deliver them and notice as you do so the appreciation and love in their eyes. Simply making food for someone else is a powerful gift.

Food builds connections.

When you eat with others, you set the stage for sharing your life with them.

You can share laughter, tears, and memorable moments over breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Through food, you can relieve stress and leave your cares at the door.

Food is a great way to say, “I love you,” “You are my friend,” “I know you need comfort,” and even “Congratulations.”
