How to Shock Your Pool

Shocking your pool water is a needed step for proper pool maintenance. Shocks or oxidizers chemically destroy organic contaminants, remove combined chlorine and help restore water clarity. This is the second step of the BioGuard 3-Step Pool Care System.

Isn’t shocking just for when your water has a problem?

No! Shocking should be part of your pool maintenance. While it does help with troubleshooting, when part of a routine it removes contaminants that cause cloudy water and helps keep the water crystal clear and sparkling.

Instructions

Salt Water Magic Monthly Liquid

This product is designed for use in properly balanced pool water.

  1. Clean or backwash filter.
  2. Shake bottle well as contents may settle.
  3. Add 1 bottle per 20,000 gallons to the skimmer with circulation system running.

Sanitizer level should be below 5ppm before adding this product.

Note: Do not backwash or clean filter within 48 hours after adding this product.

Cell Protect

This product is designed for use in properly balanced pool water.

Monthly Maintenance Dosage: Add 1 bottle (33.9oz) of Cell Protect per 20,000 gallons to the pool water evenly around the edge.

Note: If calcium hardness level is above 400ppm, add 1 bottle (33.9oz) per 10,000 gallons monthly.

Do not exceed recommended dose

Do not use with biguanides

  1. Use a chlorine sanitizer, a saltwater chlorinator or Mineral Springs® (bromine or biguanide systems are not eligible at this time).
  2. Chlorine Pool Owners must purchase at least one qualifying product from each of Step 1, Step 2 and Step 3. The qualifying Step Products are:
    • Step 1/Sanitizers – all SilkGuard® products (SilkGuard Complete™,1” SilkGuard ®Tabs, 3” SilkGuard® Tabs, SilkGuard® Sticks, Smart SilkGuard® Sticks)
    • Step 2/Shock – Smart Shock®, Easy Shock & Swim®, BurnOut® 3, BurnOut® 73
    • Step 3/Algicide – Algae Complete®, Back Up® 2, Algae All 60®, Banish®
  3. Salt Pool Owners must purchase at least one qualifying product from each of Step 2 and Step 3. The qualifying Step Products are:
    • Step 3/Algicide – SaltScapes® Algae Remover, Algae Complete™, Back Up® 2, Algae All 60®, Banish®
    • Step 2/Shock – Smart Shock®, Easy Shock & Swim®, BurnOut® 3, BurnOut® 73
  4. Mineral Springs® Pool Owners must purchase Mineral Springs™ Beginnings or Mineral Springs® Renewal® PLUS Mineral Springs® Stain & Scale.

By registering for the Promise, the pool owner agrees to:

  1. Continue to use only eligible BioGuard products and follow suggested treatment routine.
  2. Bring us a sample of your water to test regularly.
  3. Perform recommended water balance adjustments.

What conditions are not covered?
