6 Definitive Stress Busters
The stress of the holiday season is real. Not only can it ruin your holidays, but according to the Mayo Clinic, it can hurt your health.
We love the holiday season, and we bet you do, too. Yet, if you’re like us, you have a mile-long shopping list, a full calendar, and a lot of work.
Nearly everyone has felt the stress of the season from being busy all the time, to stretching finances, and dealing with parties and family gatherings.
While the time from Thanksgiving to New Years is festive and one of the most joyous times of the year, it does bring a lot of stress with it. To help you cope, we’ve put together a list of our favorite six definitive stress busters.
First, though, let’s look at a few of the biggest stressors on your health.
The Stressors
- Like us, you are probably sleep deprived during the holidays. Think late night wrapping sessions, long to-do lists, extra work, late night parties, and extra food and drink. When you’re extra tired and stressed out, you may even sleep less.
- You might feel overwhelmed by your extra long list of things to do or by high expectations that leave you wanting.
- Viruses and the flu hit big time during the holidays because your resistance is down. Plus, you’re out and about a lot more where germs are plentiful.
Rescue #1: The Hot Tub
Now it’s time to talk about how you can conquer seasonal stress. You may have guessed what we’d say for our first tactic.
That’s right. It’s a soak in a hot tub. Just a 15 minute soak in your hot tub can help you sleep better, relax, and feel more energized. What’s more, you can reconnect with your loved ones distraction free.
For the best season yet, consider setting a goal of soaking in a hot tub at least three times a week. You’ll find you feel infinitely better every day.
Rescue #2: Learn to Say No
We bet there are parties you don’t want to attend. That’s okay.
You don’t have to be everywhere this holiday season. Decide how many will fit into your schedule, choose the ones you want to go to and regret the rest.
Rescue #3: Shop Early
Don’t get caught last minute shopping. Start making your lists early and begin shopping.
You’ll find that the earlier you start, the earlier you are done, allowing you to enjoy more of the season.
Rescue #4: Set a Budget
Money is a big stressor any time of the year, and it’s even worse during the holidays.
Set a budget and stick to it. If you want some help, search the App Store for gift apps. Not only can you set a budget in the app for each person, but you can keep track of the gifts you need to buy, what you’ve purchased, and even when it’s wrapped.
Rescue #5: Eat with Moderation
Eat and drink what you want during the holidays, because who wouldn’t want to miss all that deliciousness.
But, do it with moderation so you can return home feeling good. Overeating also causes insomnia, so if you eat with moderation you’ll sleep better, too.
Rescue #6: Exercise
We all feel better when we get in a daily workout. If you find you don’t have time for your regular full workout, do try to at least do an abbreviated one.
You’ll feel better all season long if you keep moving.
